Amendment No. 1 Act · 2021 · Zimbabwe

Justice starts with knowing your rights.

Junior Court Counsel is an apolitical, youth-founded and youth-led organisation raising legal awareness among young people and adolescents in Zimbabwe.

#PictureMyRights · #KnowYourConstitution

Picture My Rights: know your constitution.

Our flagship campaign takes constitutional literacy straight into communities — with facilitators, activities and honest conversations about the rights every young person holds.

Artivism · Learning Through Expression

We teach rights through art, drama & play.

From performance to drawing exercises, young people don't just learn their rights — they perform, illustrate and own them.

Chapter 01 — Founding Provisions

Who we are

Junior Court Counsel is an apolitical, youth-found and youth-led organisation with the mandate to raise legal awareness among young people and adolescents in Zimbabwe — promoting legal empowerment and emancipation, and fostering interest in governance and leadership.

We also work to secure basic children's rights in marginalised communities, giving them the legal awareness and everyday support they need to thrive.

EXHIBIT A — VISION

To create and increase awareness of the legal frameworks governing Zimbabwe

Thereby creating legal empowerment and emancipation among the youth, and fostering the development of interest in governance and leadership involvement by young people.

EXHIBIT B — MOTTO

"Know Your Rights."

Four words that anchor everything we build — from courtroom visits to community outreach.

Chapter 02 — Strategies & Activities

What we do

We reach young people where they are — in classrooms, courtrooms and communities — through six deliberate strategies.

01

Constitutional literacy

The Constitution of Zimbabwe is read among members and explained clearly, with current-affairs cases used to bring it to life.

02

Courtroom exposure

Outdoor training seminars facilitated by law organisations and judicial services — such as Lawyers for Human Rights — plus guided court visits for observation.

03

Legal research

We research new legal tools, statutes and regulations, and consult on how courts are actually run — then share what we learn.

04

Publishing & media

Newsletters, articles and digital publications carry legal awareness beyond our meetings — an early, ongoing use of artivism as an educational tool.

05

Community outreach

Direct support in marginalised communities — clothes, food, school fees and targeted relief, including work to end period poverty.

06

Exchange & partnership

We create opportunities to exchange knowledge with other organisations working on climate, health and rights issues affecting young people.

Chapter 02 — Aims & Objectives

Where we focus

In line with Section 7(b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe on promoting public awareness of the constitution, we groom young minds with the legal knowledge and tools to defend their own rights and those of their communities — regardless of sex, age or gender.
